Match Analysis :
In the 21st match of the IPL 2021, Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders will meet at Narendra Modi Stadium (Ahmedabad). This will be the first match of the season at this venue.
Both teams will play their sixth match of this season. After their five matches of this season, PBKS have won twoout of five matches played and lost three while the Knight Riders are under immense pressure with a solitary win and four successive defeats.
Kolkata Knight Riders have endured a disappointing campaign in IPL 2021 so far. Although they began their season with a decent win over Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Knight Riders have since lost four games on the trot. Their latest defeat witnessed a very flavourless batting effort from Morgan’s men and it has become a big headache for Kolkata. Their top-order consisting of Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, and Rahul Tripathi has blown hot and cold, with Eoin Morgan also struggling for runs in the middle. The onus will be on Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik to deliver the goods with the bat if KKR are to return to winning ways. The bowling still has done a reasonable job but their batting unit has to perform well to win matches. Kolkata will need the likes of Pat Cummins and possibly Lockie Ferguson to fire big time in what is a crucial game for the former IPL champions.
Meanwhile Punjab Kings are high on confidence after winning the game against the defending champions in MI. They completely dominated MI in all the departments of the game but one has to say that they got away by bowling their 5th bowler’s quota inside powerplay which maynot be the case in Ahmedabad where the wickets will be a decent one for batting and KKR’s openers are certainly expected to show more intent considering the disastrous opening partnership in the game against RR. With the move to Ahmedabad now, where they play their next four games, finding the right combination and consistency will be imperative for Punjab in their quest for momentum and ascent.
